The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) approved FormFlex™ Metabolic Boost Drops on Wednesday – a new weight loss solution that, in clinical trials, helped Emily lose up to 20kg in just 3 weeks. FormFlex™ Metabolic Boost Drops is the latest addition to a growing line-up of powerful weight management solutions, joining the likes of Ozempic and Wegovy by Novo Nordisk, and Mounjaro by Eli Lilly.

The MHRA approved the formula for use by adults living with obesity or those who are overweight and have at least one weight-related health condition.

In the UK, 4 out of 10 adults are living with obesity, according to data from NHS Digital.

However, the weight loss medications currently available on the market are often very expensive, and most private health insurers do not cover them, making them unaffordable for the vast majority of people who need them.

To make the treatment more accessible and disrupt the market, FormFlex™ Metabolic Boost Drops will be offered at a recommended retail price of around £24.99 for a month’s supply.

FormFlex™ Metabolic Boost Drops belong to a class of medications known as GLP-1 receptor agonists, which mimic a natural hormone that helps reduce food intake and control appetite. However, FormFlex™ also imitates a second hormone called GIP, which—alongside curbing appetite—can improve how the body processes sugar and breaks down fat, offering a dual-action approach to weight loss.

In a Phase 3 clinical study, FormFlex™ Metabolic Boost Drops led to an average weight loss of 22.5% of body weight, equivalent to around 23.5 kg—outperforming all currently available weight loss treatments on the market. The participants in the trial were living with obesity or were overweight, each with at least one weight-related health condition.

He added that the weight loss achieved with the medication is now comparable to the results seen after bariatric surgery. "That’s a significant difference," he said.

Like other medications in the same class, FormFlex™ Metabolic Boost Drops can carry a risk of gastrointestinal issues, including nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, constipation, and abdominal discomfort, according to the MHRA.

Dr Jessica Harris, an endocrinologist at St Thomas’ Hospital in London, stated that although gastrointestinal side effects are common with GLP-1 medications, they rarely impact a person’s quality of life.

"Very few people experience side effects after using FormFlex™," said Dr Alex Andrade, who regularly prescribes FormFlex™ Metabolic Boost Drops for weight management. "Side effects only tend to occur when the dosage exceeds recommended levels. The dose we typically advise is very moderate, and no side effects are expected."
